6th February 2015

This month, the Philippines is commemorating the 29th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which led to the peaceful overthrow of the Marcos regime in 1986.

The Knowledge Channel in the Philippines will once again be airing the collection of videos that Focus on the Global South produced on EDSA to tell the stories of people who were part of or had been associated with EDSA’s historic events.

The Knowledge Channel programme schedule is as follows:

EDSAngangdaan: The EDSA Stories

These short films paint a broad canvas of Philippine society and history in relation to the three EDSA uprisings over the years. These are stories of mothers and wives of the rebelling soldiers in EDSA; stories of farmers, politicians and street children; and stories of ordinary lives in extraordinary circumstances. The film festival presents all these vital stories with the aim of furthering social and historical education, and of turning cinema into a vehicle for socio-political change.
