Arroyo’s fate has become incidental, Docena writes, as “beneath the coup plots, shadow plays, and shifting alliances…is the old protracted struggle for power in the Philippines.”
IN the wake of last week’s airing of a videotape — apparently intended to be shown during the protest march commemorating 20 years of the first People Power uprising last February 24 — showing Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim withdrawing support for the government of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former ambassador Roy Señeres has dared the former Scout Ranger commander’s backers to come out publicly, saying there was nothing illegal in their actions.
Among those whom Señeres identified to have encouraged Lim to withdraw support for Arroyo were former government officials and prominent personalities from the business class — former executive secretary Oscar Orbos, former defense secretary Renato de Villa, ABC-5 chair Antonio “Tonyboy” Cojuangco, construction magnate F.F. Cruz Jr., and old-rich scion Iñigo Zobel.
