Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson won the Nobel in Economics for their book, “Why Nations Fail.” The award has become controversial and is seen as an example of how the Nobel in Economics is now awarded on ideological, not scientific, grounds. This essay I wrote for the Philippine Sociological Review in 2013 challenged the theory and methodology of the book, showing how severely flawed they were.
