Social movements and representatives of regional networks based in the Philippines held a peaceful demonstration today in front of the Pakistani Embassy in Makati City, Philippines, calling for the immediate release of detained Pakistani leader Saeed Baloch, of Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF).
The program was led by Khevin Yu, campaigns officer of the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ). Messages of solidarity and pleas for urgent action to free Saeed were made by Rayyan Hassan, of the international advocacy network NGO Forum on the ADB, Joseph Purugganan, from the Philippine office of regional think-tank Focus on the Global South, and Denise Fontanilla of the Asian Peoples Movement on Debt and Development.
A formal letter from the NGO Forum on the ADB addressed to the Pakistani Ambassador to the Philippines was personally handed by Mr. Hassan and Purugganan to an official of the Embassy who promised to relay the message to the government in Pakistan.
The protest action was organized by PMCJ, APMDD, NGO Forum on the ADB, Focus on the Global South, Alyansa Tigil Mina and Sanlakas.
