The UP Asian Center in partnership with the UP Institute for Islamic Studies and the Moro-Palestinian Cooperation Team will hold the cultural festival, AHLAN WA SALAN (Everyone is Welcome): Food Festival, Art Exhibit, and Stories of Filipino-Palestinian Families on 30 June 2024 at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, UP Diliman. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. Walk-ins are welcome, but participants are encouraged to register online.

ABOUT THE CULTURAL FESTIVAL

This Filipino-Palestinian Cultural Festival aims to strengthen cultural ties between Filipino and Palestinian communities in the Philippines through food, art, and culture. It also seeks to be a platform where members of these communities can express and exchange stories to inspire hope, optimism, and resilience despite social and humanitarian challenges. Through experiencing and sharing each other’s cultural heritage, this activity aims to promote community-building toward global and international peace and harmony.


MORNING PROGRAM

Filipino-Palestinian families were invited to display their artworks representing their life stories and experiences. They were also invited to sell food to showcase and share their culture and heritage.


AFTERNOON PROGRAM 

ARTISTS TALK AND THEIR STORIES
12:30 PM, GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium

Invited Filipino-Palestinian artists will showcase and talk about their works and share their stories. Dean Henelito Sevilla of the UP Asian Center and Dean Julkipili M. Wadi of the UP Institute of Islamic Studies will be delivering the opening remarks. The discussion and sharing of stories will be moderated by UP Asian Center Associate Professor Dr. Michelle R. Palumbarit and Miriam College Senior Lecturer Lorna Israel.

The Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The UP Asian Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. It also offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
