In August 2006, as Israel pummeled Lebanon with cluster munitions and phosphorous bombs, many Lebanese employers locked up domestic Filipino workers to keep them from leaving their houses. At least ten Filipino migrant workers would jump off from buildings, and many more would try to escape in the dead of night. Fleeing from Israeli bombs or from abusive employers or both, it was – for some – a choice between death and death.
