A villager uses a traditional tool to catch fish for his livelihood
Illegal and large-scale commercial fishing and fishing lots use modern fishing tools and equipment to catch fish, including small fish, which deplete the number of fish in lakes and rivers. In contrast, fisher folk have been fighting to preserve fish stocks as a sustainable food source by protecting fish conservation areas and using their traditional equipment and tools to catch only as much fish as required for their family and local community consumption.
