DEAR ALL:
Greetings from Focus on the Global South-Philippines!
We are pleased to announce that the Focus-sponsored EDSA Mo, EDSA Ko! Film Grant is now accepting applications; the deadline for applications is June 24, 2011. There are four categories, namely, the open category, youth, women and migrant Filipinos/advocates of migrant Filipinos, which are all open to young people. The theme of the grant is “Re-Imagining EDSA.” (Please see details of guidelines and other requirements at http://edsastories.focusweb.org.)
The Film Grant was launched last February 24, together with the EDSA Stories website/project. The project seeks to encourage the general public, especially young Filipinos, to continuously find meaning in historic events such as the 1986 EDSA People Power and the two people’s actions that were modeled after it, EDSA Dos and EDSA Tres (or the Malacañanag Siege) in 2001. History is not only about the past, but, whether we like it or not, it influences our present and shapes our future. It is always in-the-making, and in this sense, the youth is as much part of and responsible for it.
We would like to encourage young Filipinos’ participation in active citizenship and political activism in a medium they’re familiar with—film making. May we seek your support for this endeavor by helping propagate information about it in your schools, institutions and organizations? You may put in your official websites the link to our portal (http://edsastories.focusweb.org or http://focusweb.org/philippines/) where details of the grant are found. You may also request posters, brochures and other related paraphernalia from our office. We would also appreciate it if you can inform us of your events where we can have the opportunity to plug the film grant and EDSA Stories project.
Thank you very much for your support. Here’s to a more socially/politically involved Filipino youth and public. For more information, please get in touch with Ms Clarissa V. Militante (cvmilitante@focusweb.org), Mr. Jerik Cruz (jerik.cruz@gmail.com) and/or Ms. Lou Torres (lou_torres@focusweb.org) at number 433-08-99 or via email.
Sincerely,
Ms Jenina Joy Chavez
