Launch of the New Focus on the Global South Programme- Whose New Asia led by Pablo Solon, Focus' New Executive Director

Dear Partners/Friends,

We are glad to inform you that Focus on the Global South’s new Executive Director, Pablo Solon, is visiting our Philippines office from May 2 to 5, 2012. Mr. Solon was the former Bolivian ambassador, under the Evo Morales government, to the UnitedNations. As ambassador to the UN, he became known as a tireless advocate for the rights of nature; he delivered the now famous speech explaining why Bolivia chose to “stand alone” by not signing the Cancun climate agreement in 2010. Before holding this post, he had been a social activist involved in indigenous movements, workers’ unions, student associations, human rights and cultural organizations in his native Bolivia. He is also extensively involved in the global justice movement.

During his visit in Manila, apart from meeting with Focus–Philippines team, Mr. Solon is also very keen on getting acquainted with our partners, allies and friends in the various networks and/or campaigns Focus had initiated and participated in through the years, and continues to carry on. As a way of touching base with our work here and our partners and friends, Mr. Solon is leading the launch of Focus’ new program called Whose New Asia. We see this as a great opportunity to share Focus’ future plans and current organizational direction, and the kind of work that may be expected from us, and to get responses as well from partners and allies on our new program and how we may continue to work effectively in the Philippines.

To truly make it meaningful, we wish for your participation in this activity on May 4 (Friday), 9 AM – 12 noon (lunch will be served), at the Sulo Riviera Hotel. See you at the launch!

Sincerely,
Clarissa V. Militante Coordinator – Philippines/Southeast Asia
